Jerkinhead Roof
A jerkin head roof is a gable roof in which the peaks at the gable ends are cut to resemble a hip roof. The advantage of this style is that clipping streamlines the apex of the gable roof, which can be highly stressed by the wind, reducing potential wind damage.

The gable end of this roof is cut like a hip roof.

Jerkinhead roofs are also called cut gables or snub gables.
