Give me a house with walls, roof or glass

Pass out in a sun-warmed area in one or more places.

About a year ago I sat down and typed one of the first articles on KDRoofers. It was dead winter and the sky was washed with a tired gray palette. The bleak atmosphere quickly became the norm, and soon I started looking for the sunniest room in our house.

It got me thinking about the small amount of light my house typically allows and the impact of sun-blocked spaces, and I suddenly found myself collecting photos of greenhouses, conservatories, and glass-walled rooms. It sparked the idea for an article titled Life in a Glass House, and a year
later I’m trekking down the same path.

Be amazed by the photos below of sunny spaces that will cheer you up during the day during the deepest months of winter.

The amount of light pouring through this angled wall of windows is truly amazing. I think this
picture could quickly enter my ever-expanding pipe dream list. The surrounding lush greenery
brings to life a space truly worthy of this lounge.

Waking up to sunlight streaming through the walls and ceiling is high on my wish list, and this
bedroom embraces it with all its might. Dark paneled walls certainly play an important role when
the snow starts to fall by ensuring that the room doesn’t feel harsh or cold.

Imagine being invited to dinner and coming to this house for the first time. Looking at the beautiful greenhouse architecture, you can guess that the owner will have no trouble finding a house sitter. But again, they won’t leave. I know I won’t.

This dark living room is greatly enhanced by the long glass roof above. A solution like this looks
especially useful for rooms with north-facing windows.

So, I know this doesn’t have to be a greenhouse or conservatory. However, it is undeniable that it
still looks attractive. I like this concept because it looks like something many homeowners can get. Floor-to-ceiling bay windows are more aesthetically pleasing than standard picture windows. I think most of us have areas where we can achieve something similar.

This photo may be from your craziest dreams, but it’s still fun to imagine such a gorgeous space.
If you had something like this hanging next to your house, you would be typing it here right now.
Oh, and the pool is just an added bonus.

A space like this would be the perfect hangout to entertain all types of visitors. Call me odd, but this glass dome has a unique way of making me feel like a dollhouse miniature sitting under a glass cloche.

Many of the photos in this story focus on comfortable spaces amplified by the use of large windows. But this room is a real hothouse where work still feels like play.

I think this wind path creates a passageway connecting the house and the garage. A creative way to take all your tools home after completing various interior projects. Really, who could miss the chance to walk down this gorgeous aisle?

A solar tunnel running through the center of the house? Yes please. I don’t know which is better, looking in from the outside or looking out from the inside. Either way, this patio is pretty spectacular.

A beautiful and lively indoor greenhouse, I dare to guess that most of us will have no trouble filling our free time alone in this room. I prune during the day and read a book at night, and in between, I see my phone. A room like this would definitely be a great escape.
